Erica Leung is currently pursuing a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Her field is bio-inspired materials for camouflage and thermal management.
Erica received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with an emphasis on Process Systems. For her Ph.D. studies at UCI, she is working under the guidance of Professor Alon Gorodetsky and is focusing on the unique proteins in cephalopod skin to take advantage of their optical and electrical properties. She is also fabricating artificial cephalopod skin to develop dynamic, thermally comfortable clothing.
Erica is an amateur baker, spending her time making elaborate cupcakes and cakes for parties and music performances.
She won an award at Caltech to travel to Iceland where she backpacked to volcanoes, geysers, and glaciers, documenting the trip through Black and White film photography.
