Tobias Ricco is the Lead Engineer at INSTAR (Inertial Storage and Recovery) Research Group at UC Berkeley: His team has developed Flywheel-electric hybrid go-kart prototype with traction control, an electronic differential, and custom lithium ion battery packs with supporting electronics. The platform is used to optimize flywheel/battery energy storage system to increase regenerative braking efficiency and prolong battery life. He catalyzed group by sourcing a sponsor to donate go-kart frame and transitioned the research from paper-only to physical prototype.
Toby received his M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, from University of California, Berkeley.
